HEART AND SEOUL October 23-30, 2005

HEART

Dear Family,
We returned to our services in the temple this week. The highlight was the arrival of two new missionary couples who will serve in the temple for the next eighteen months. They are David & Julie Chon who imigrated to America thirty years ago from Korea. After their education at BYU and other schools and living in California they eventualy moved to Baltimore, Maryland where David was employed as a mechanical engineer for a large recycling industry or company. Here they raised their five daughters and two girls, as he refers to them since two are still not married. He had many church callings including that of a bishop and most recently as ordinance workers in the Washington DC temple. One of their first desires following his retirement was to serve a full time mission and ended up in their native land of Korea. They are already an asset to us being fluent in English and Korean.
The other couple are Wayne and Donna Guinn who are from Neola, Utah and have served in the Vernal Temple. Both Wayne and Donna are converts to the church of eleven years. This is a second marriage for both of them and they moved to Neola six years ago to be near Donna's daughter, after living in Arizona and California for most of their lives.
Their coming has already proven interesting and we can see where the needs of the temple can be better met with these additional temple missionaries.
From the "heart" of your mother (& sister) she just wants to express her thanks for your remembrances of her birthday. She loves you and your thoughtfulness meant much to her.

SEOUL

Today was your mothers birthday, she is now as old as your father, much to her dismay. Of course, he has already accepted the Korean age which puts him at 78 so she is still MUCH younger.
Following the custom, all of the temple misionaries living in the apartment complex along with President Lee & his wife (matron) met together for dinner in celebration of her birthday and combined with the welcoming of the new couples. We provided most of the dinner but it was supplemented by the Hess's & Kastendicks.
All of this was followed by the highlight of the day, attending District Conference which included all of seventeen stakes and districts of South Korea. It was broadcast by Satalite to most of the stake houses in the first of it's kind in this part of the world. Besides, Elder Ko and Elder Evans, our visiting authority was Russell S. Nelson. All of whom gave wonderful counsel to the Kroeans saints including an Apostalic blessing from Elder Nelson. It is sometimes hard to comprehend the extent of the world technology in which we live. Our Saturday adult session was held from 3-5p.m. and we were given time off of the temple to attend. Like most Saturday conference meetings, it was outstanding in the many different talks pertaining to "Teachings for your Posterity".
