Family Ties...Sept. 24-Oct. 1, 2006

Dear Family,
Our fifty-ninth wedding anniversary nearly got swallowed up in the activities of our grandchildren with the birthdays of both Jake and Jeff and the successive weddings of Janie and Jake. However, we were more than honored by the graciousness of others. Mike and Sue gave us a brand new RiCar vacume cleaner which we have come to recognize as the best on the market. Nancy and Jeff have provided us with airline tickets to visit them during the weeks of October 17-October 31st. Lowell and June Sorenson invited us to a lovely celebration dinner this past week and your father received the biggest bag of m&m peanuts he's ever seen. We even purchased for ourselves and automatic bread maker which we have wanted for some time.
The week following our trip to St. George was spent finishing up a long list of cabin needs in preparation for the winter. Your mother finished the project of insulating curtains for the entry room and made seat covers for the swinging bench. Your father cut down trees and chopped them into firewood and stacked them for our winter use.
Friday was a special day where we arranged with our good friends Dale & JoAnn Gardner who were our neighbors in the duplex in Nauvoo. They were called from Nauvoo to serve as the President of the Ogden Temple where he served for the three following years. We went to breakfast together and enjoyed exchanging and reliving experiences since Nauvoo.
That evening we met with other friends from Korea and attended the Korean Cultural Night in the Bountiful Regional Center which was packed with Korean friends and friends of Korean culture. It was reminiscent of the 50 year celebration we experienced a year ago in July in Korea, only on a much smaller scale.
As we enjoyed the opening session of conference on Saturday morning at the cabin, we had a call from Jake and Jeff who with Jarica and Natalie announced they would see us that evening following the wedding preparations they were making with Natalie's mother. And of all the experiences of the week, this perhaps was the most delightful to see the love and excitement in the lives of these special young people. They stayed Saturday night and watched Sunday sessions of conference before leaving for home. Part of their time on Sunday was spent with Jake taking pictures for the wedding announcement. They couldn't have picked a more beautiful time of the year with the fall colors in array.
