Family Ties July 2 - July 9, 2006

Dear Family,
Long ago we learned from sad experience that it takes much less time to buy, than to apply paint. The better part of this week has been spent applying some of the paint that we bought last week and the upstairs rooms sport a fresh new coat of paint and we will begin a like procedure with the downstairs rooms this coming week. They look good and we think you will enjoy the new decor.
We were tempted to spend a quiet day at the cabin on the fourth of July but as we reflected our joy to be home and to appreciate the freedoms of this great nation, we repented. The three of us arose at 5a.m. and drove to Midway in time to participate in the Sunrise Services that have been a part of Midway's heritage for several decades. Musical numbers by the Swiss Bell Ringers, the Swiss Chorus were great but the highlight of the service was the talk given by Elder Jeffery Holland. It was obvious that he had spent a great deal of time in researching facts of the early beginnings of this great nation. Another special feature of the morning was the acknowledgement of all four branches of the military. Though it required effort on our part we were rewarded greatly and were given cause to consider our heritage in the coming Independance Day celebrations.
Our first day back to our ward following our homecoming was very pleasant as we observed a large number of new people have moved into the ward. We were warmly welcomed and felt immediately at home. How good it is to be home.
We hope all of you read Dan & Ann's comment about the family blog and hope that you will respond to their suggestion. We can't express enough how much it meant to us to have Dan's "weekly" email each Monday morning while in Korea. It made us feel so much more connected to the family and will do the same for each of you if you will respond to their suggestion.
