Family Ties....November 5 - 12, 2006

Dear Family,

In our ward there are approximately thirty couples who fit the "Empty Nester" status. A large number of these couples are regular attenders at these monthy FHE socials. These are usually held in one of the homes of sufficient size. Included in this group have been three or four non member couples who come regularly because they seem to feel so comfortable with church members. They are retired imports from other parts of the country who discover the beauties and advantages of living in Heber Valley. Monday's social was held in a beautiful log home. Virginia's hobby is collecting dolls and she had over three hundred of which 80% were over a hundred years old. David's hobby is dogs and his Home Evening lesson was centered around the history of dogs...a little different from our FHE's but very appropriate for the evening.
We mentioned last week that Ed adjusted the overhead doors and this week we purchased and installed an automatic opener which has increased our love for the garage. On Friday afternoon we met Dan and Ann in Provo where we picked up Jinsook, our friend from Korea at BYU, and Dan treated us to dinner at Mimi's. Jinsook is doing amazingly well at BYU and we have observed a noticable improvement in her English language in the few months she has been here. We have invited Jinsook to join us at David's house on Thanksgiving Day followed by staying with us at the cabin until Saturday when we serve in the temple. We are hoping all of the family will have the opportunity of becoming acquainted with Jinsook.
Following our dinner we attended the BYU's Men and Women concert presention at the Harris Fine Arts Center with David, Jan and Family. Andrew was a participant in both the chorus and the musical instrument's. It was a most enjoyable evening.
Saturday we resumed our service in the Provo Temple. It was quickly apparent why President Lambert was so pleased when we offered to fill the need at this particular time of the week. There seems to be a great need for ordinance workers at this time.
Traveling home Saturday night was a challenge. A large storm from the northwest hit the valley's as well as here in the mountains. The storm that started as heavy rain then to sleet and then snow which made the roads in Timberlake VERY trecherous. Many cars were off the road and we experienced another tender mercy as we were able traverse up the mountain in safety.
The calling we received last week was to resume teaching the Temple Preparation Seminar. We were set apart and taught our first class today to two impressive young men about to leave on their missions. Can't help but say, it is good to be back "home" in the temple and teaching the importance of the temple.
