Family Ties February 18 - 15, 2007

Dear Family,
The topic of interest this week is snow. We have had snow nearly every day except Tuesday along with somewhat lower temperatures. Though there has not been big amounts, it all added up to a sizeable depth when we led Brother & Sister Sorenson down Marigold to get on Blue Spruce from whence they travelled on home. We had some concern when it appeared Lowell could not see our path and drove into a big snow bank. This required considerable shoveling with the help of a young man, Scott Booth, who was visiting here from Florida in a cabin down on Columbine. We were able to get Lowell back on the road with the help of our good snow car and it's studded tires. Even though it snowed again Saturday, our trip to and from the temple was no concern. Today it snowed while in church and continues to snow but it has not been difficult driving since Timberlakes does a good job plowing our roads. Perhaps like other springs, we will see more snow than during the winter time. Speaking of spring, one can feel it in the air in spite of the storms.
Today your mother taught her monthly lesson in Relief Society on the subject of the atonement and like other lessons in the past your father received raved notices of her teaching.
We noticed in the paper today the passing of Zenna George...surely you older children will remember this good friend in Granger who even took care of Ed for several days one time.
Your father wrote about my lesson but here is "the rest of the story". What the sisters were pleased with was something I had written down on a small piece of paper that had impressed me but I didn't write who said it. Here it is:
"There is a huge difference in Growing Old and Growin Up. Growing Old is mandatory, it takes no talent or ability. Growing Up is optional.

There are four secrets in staying young, being happy and achieving success. (Growing Up).
1. Laugh, find humor every day.
2. Have a dream.
3. Always find opportunity to change.
4. Have "No Regrets".

Elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather things we do not do.
The only people who fear death are those with regrets.

I love the thought "Growing Up" for it is what I'll being doing eternally!
